History

Gin or genever originated in Holland in the 17th century.  Various forms of poor quality, sweetened Gin emerged in England shortly afterwards where it's popularity exploded.
London Dry Gin originated in the 19th century with the invention of the column still.

Usage

A popular base spirit that combines well with fortified wines, citrus, amaro and herbal liqueurs.
